Job Title: Operations Manager
Employment Type: Full Time, Salary
Salary: As per Employment Agreement
Reports To: Managing Director
Work Schedule: 8 am - 5 pm, 40 hours weekly, and “on call” as needed.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Operations Manager will oversee the daily operations of Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, ensuring seamless coordination across our diverse business units. This role is critical for maintaining high standards of service, operational efficiency, and strategic growth. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for environmental conservation, and a proven track record in managing multifaceted operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operational Management

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the lodge, tour operator, environmental education programs, marine station, and study abroad initiatives.

    • Ensure all operations run smoothly, efficiently, and in alignment with organizational goals.

    • Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all departments.

  2. Team Leadership

    • Lead, mentor, and manage a diverse team of staff across various departments while facilitating and maintaining timely and efficient workflows. 

    • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.

    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.

  3. Financial Oversight

    • Develop and manage budgets for each department. 

    • Monitor financial performance and implement cost-control measures.

    • Assist in fundraising and grant management activities.

  4. Customer Experience

    • Ensure a high-quality experience for all guests and participants.

    • Address and resolve customer inquiries and complaints in a timely and professional manner.

    • Monitor and improve customer satisfaction metrics.

  5. Strategic Planning

    • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans for growth and sustainability.

    • Identify opportunities for expansion and improvement within existing operations.

    • Collaborate with the Managing Director on long-term planning and organizational development.

  6. Compliance and Safety

    • Ensure all operations comply with local, national, and international regulations.

    • Implement and maintain health and safety protocols for staff and guests.

    • Conduct regular risk assessments and emergency preparedness drills.

  7. Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and partner organizations.

    • Represent Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary at conferences and meetings as requested by the Managing Director. 

    • Collaborate with marketing and communication teams to promote our mission and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality Management, Environmental Science, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, preferably within the hospitality, tourism, or NGO sector.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Excellent financial management and budgeting skills.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Passion for environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

  • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and operational management software.

  • Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
