Guided Nature Trail Day Hike

Tour Description: Hike through five distinct vegetation habitats within Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, a critical piece of the Maya Forest Corridor that connects the Southern and Northern protected areas. Interactive discussion on fire ecology, plant identification, traditional medicinal plant use, wildlife and conservation initiatives.   

For an additional $10 USD, you can deploy a camera trap along the trail and gain access to camera footage following deployment and retrieval. These cameras are used to monitor biodiversity and animal migration through the Maya Forest Corridor, a vital part of the regional Selva Maya forest network.

Guided Night Hike

Tour Description:  Experience the Jungle at night! Many critters, night birds and animals become more active during the nighttime hours, so this is a perfect opportunity to have close encounters with some of the lesser seen animals of the Belizean forests. See many night birds, amphibians, critters, reptiles, and if lucky, larger mammals that call Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary their home!

Sibun River Canoe Paddle

Tour Description: Gently float downwards the pristine, crystal clear waters of the Sibun River in lightweight Townsend canoes. The Sibun River emerges from high up in the Maya Mountains of Belize and is one of nature’s best kept secrets. Paddling down this mid-reach stretch of the Sibun River creates a fantastic opportunity to admire the spectacular riparian forest, decorated with impressive Fig and Ceiba Trees, loaded with mesmerizing bromeliads and orchids, noisy howlers and shy iguanas. Encounter a myriad of birds and occasionally spot a river otter, a Morelet's Crocodile or a Tapir enjoying a cool bath. Safety is guaranteed by using class 3 life vests, strapped-on footwear or water shoes, and experienced river guides trained in swift water rescue.

Tiger Sandy Bay Cave Exploration

Tour Description: Depart Monkey Bay and travel 20 minutes through Tiger Sandy Bay Citrus Farm. Wildlife Surveying and Monitoring Techniques Session

Activity Description: Head into the Monkey Bay Wildlife Sanctuary savanna and forest to learn how to identify where to set up camera traps and how to properly set up your camera traps for best image capturing. Enjoy viewing images of wildlife captured by your camera traps!

Tropical Ornithology Lecture

Activity Description: Explore the life history of resident and migratory birds in Belize. Learn about basic bird identification, survey techniques, and the importance of birds as indicator species.
